About the role

Jenish Furniture is seeking an experienced Cabinet Maker/Joiner to join our team on a full-time basis at our workshop in McGraths Hill, NSW. This is a hands-on role that plays a crucial part in delivering high-quality custom cabinetry and joinery solutions to our clients. You will be responsible for designing, crafting, and assembling bespoke furniture pieces using both traditional techniques and modern machinery. This position offers the opportunity to work with quality materials and take pride in creating pieces that enhance customers' homes and businesses.

Key responsibilities

  1. Measure, mark, and cut timber and other materials to precise specifications using hand tools and precision machinery

  2. Design and construct custom cabinets, drawers, doors, and other joinery components according to client specifications and technical drawings

  3. Assemble cabinetry using appropriate jointing techniques, adhesives, and hardware to ensure structural integrity and visual appeal

  4. Operate and maintain workshop machinery including table saws, band saws, sanders, and other specialist equipment safely and effectively

  5. Prepare surfaces through sanding, staining, and finishing to achieve the desired aesthetic and durability

  6. Quality check finished pieces to ensure they meet design specifications and company standards before delivery

  7. Collaborate with the design team and clients to understand project requirements and resolve any technical challenges

  8. Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment in compliance with health and safety regulations

  9. Source and select appropriate materials, contributing to efficient inventory management and cost control

What we're looking for

  1. Apprenticeship completion or equivalent formal qualification in cabinet making, joinery, or furniture manufacturing

  2. Minimum 3 years' professional experience in cabinet making, custom joinery, or furniture production

  3. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery including table saws, routers, and sanders

  4. Strong understanding of timber species, wood properties, finishes, and materials used in cabinetry

  5. Ability to interpret technical drawings and work from detailed specifications with precision

  6. Knowledge of joinery techniques including mortise and tenon, dovetail, and dowel construction

  7. Attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality finished products

  8. Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with team members

  9. Current understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and best practices

  10. Physical capability to lift, carry, and work with materials and components of varying weights

  11. Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to client interactions

  12. Experience with CAD software or design programs is desirable but not essential
